Meeting Minutes
April 29, 2008
We met in a conference room at the Hooks Central Library, 3 PM.
Sheldon Dacus chaired the beginning of the meeting.
Tim Davis ( tdavis@fpsCMI.com 1850 Craigshire Rd #302 St Louis MO 63146; office ph 314-432-1377 ) from Fire Protection Systems Corrosion Management, Inc [fpmCMI] gave a 45 minute presentation without his usual PowerPoint supplement due to no proper plug. We ran an hour because of a good discussion. Some points that he made are:
- Water chemistry = rust
- MIC ≠ rust
- Treat water in pipes for bacteria and rust
- Design and install sprinkler systemsto inhibit MIC and corrosion
- drains
- pitch
air nitrogen in dry systems
- food grade additive to water in wet systems
From their literature: “Corrosion of fire protection systems results in interruptions to fire protection, production shutdown, product loss, property damage and costly repairs.” … “Consistently treating water in a fire protection system with the correct chemistry inhibits corrosion and microbial growth.” … “Reducing the amount of air trapped in the [dry] system will reduce corrosion activity.” … “fpsCME offers a comprehensive corrosion management program consisting of engineering Assessments, Correction and Remediation actions, as well as On-going Maintenance and Follow-up Monitoring Programs.”
Certificates of Attendance at this one (1) presentation for use as Continuing Education Credit, may be requested from our Secretary. [This presentation was not pre-qualified for TN training time for either recertification or supplemental pay.]
